There are a few things you’ll need to do to organise your loft and the rest of your home in advance of the conversion work.
You’ll no doubt have several questions running through your mind about what you should and shouldn’t be doing with regards getting ready for your new loft conversion. Chingford loft conversion companies who are reputable and experienced will be able to talk you through any queries you may have.
Still, have a few questions you need to ask someone about? Here are our answers, based on our experience and expertise.
Do I Need to Move out of my Home whilst the Conversion takes Place?
There’s no reason why you’d need to move out of your home during the loft conversion. A reputable loft conversion company will make sure that they keep disruption to a minimum, although there will be times when tradesmen and women are going back and forth within your home.
If this will be a problem for you, you might want to consider staying elsewhere while the work is done. However, it’s worth speaking to your chosen conversion company and managing expectations all around regarding how much disruption you can expect.
Do I need to Clear Out my Loft?
Although it might seem like a bit of a chore, you will definitely need to clear out your loft, unfortunately! Space needs to be completely clear to make it safe for anyone to work in.
View it as an opportunity rather than a problem: declutter as much as you can and find homes for anything that you need or want to keep.
Do I need to Clear Out any Other Parts of my Home?
Not necessarily, but remember that you will need to keep hallways, stairs and any other access to the loft clear to make it accessible for the tradespeople.
Will I need to Organise a Skip?
You may need a skip during the loft conversion. Speak to your specialist conversion company and see whether this is something that they can organise for you, or whether you need to arrange it.
Most loft conversion companies will be able to organise a skip as part of their work. However, if you do need to organise one yourself, remember that it’s wise to speak to your neighbours in advance of it arriving, and check with your local council as to whether you need permission from them to place it outside your property.
Will my Home’s Basic Amenities be Disconnected?
For the most part, you’ll still have running water and electricity. If the water and electricity need to be disconnected at any point during the work, it will only be temporarily and your loft conversion company should give you notice of this in advance so that you can prepare.
